Old Soldier Orange Julius Goes Out in Blaze of Glory at 20!

Orange Julius after well enough to finally have teeth cleaned in January, 'ran out of gas ' a few weeks later and left us in February at age 20!. You could see he didn't want to go in those mournful eyes while taking a couple last licks of a churro stick He was fairly active until last day but in obvious distress

Unexpected Happy Endings to Stealth Bird-in-House & 3-Part Drama

Eagle-eye (or should we say 'cat-eye'?) PINKY was first to spot little bird who flew in the house thru patio window and would remain much longer than expected

OUR LITTLE CHICADEE (Drama 1)
I've had many birds come to visit but they would never stay longer than a few hours and then leave with my best 'shooing away' efforts. But this time the little chickadee that got in (thru , yes, fault of my own leaving patio door openfor cats to catify in the catio) and seemed to want to stay or maybe live here, cats and all!

After Pinky cat first spotted her, atop a picture frame over couch she was on, Tuesday 2-10, I wasn't able to  evacuate this high-flying bird. He or she was definitely flying  above the radar, and the windows below, in my high-ceilinged living room- too high to go through the open windows.

Catio Patio open door  thru which stealth bird flew into house and only Pinky noticed and alerted us.

It was late and the bird seemed to be already bedded down for the night, so here was hoping to wake up the morning as peaceful as it was at night- without finding a bird in Pinky's mouth

Wed morn seemed to come peacefully, as hoped- but so much so I couldn't find hair nor feather of a bird. After some hours , the bird finally emerged, so I opened all the windows and closed all the blinds, as suggested by 'bird removers' so birdie could better focus on the en-lightened passage out.

After another hour, during which i went back to sleep to catch up on my lack thereof, I saw no sign  of DA BIRD. I even climbed up a ladder to check all the HIGH PLACES.  After much looking, I only found Garth Brooks.

I just about convinced myself that the new down-blind technique worked after, again,  climbing to view those high and even LOW PLACES, in case maybe he had fallen, or -Lord help me- passed away. But this time, I didnt even see Garth Brooks- nor any droppings, if you will.. There was NOwhere he could possibly be as the rest of the house was pretty well cordoned off. If he or she WAS still there  it was the quietest bird ever. And,  Not a peep the rest of the day.  By Wed night I just assumed he HAD found his way out, though it would have been the first bird that I'd had escape on his own without any help.

Thursday came and da bird wasn't even on my radar. Even Pinky had long since stopped looking for 'it.'
Then, as I came in the kitchen I heard a rustling and a few chirps. Imagine that! The bird was back. Never left and not even a peep for two days. I guess he's had enough residence here eating the cat scraps and all.

So, I quickly closed all the blinds where there were no windows that open. He was still flying high but now the only light was comi g from the open windows with open blinds. We'll see how good birdie 's eye sight is. Sure enough, birdie came down below the radar . He must have seen the open patio window. Whoosh! He just cleared the door and out he went, appearing glad to be back in his real habitat.

Nothing like living for two days with a stealth bird in the house, but wait... there's more...

DRAMA 2: Zippy cat in quarantine after participating in A third drama in three days- somehow escaping over catio with a mighty jump: We have since corrected the breach. This was first and hopefully last time Zippy escaped. Fortunately. Zippy's many homeless years outdoors didn't keep him away too long, but only after I had to scramble to take down the catio briefly for Zippy to have an easy entrance back in .  ...And everybody lived happily ever after, to now anyway.

BLUE JAY-A Bird in the Hand Drama 3

NOW, little chickadees finally gone but Sunday morn Zippy cat suddenly escaped the house-first time ever- jumping Over the catio gate never done before since my first cat, Juicy 20 years ago. But thats another story we won't detail here and now other than mention above)

Having had to leave all the windows and doors open for Zippy to find his way back left a REAL OPENING  for a big blue Jay, of all things!

I had actually been gone about five hours after getting zippy back in but I remember hearing a loud bang  like a bird hitting a window  but saw nothing before leaving. Five hours later , upon opening the front  door I was greeted by a blue Jay rustling in the window. At least this time, we were dealing with a bird close to the open window I might more easily shoo out.

Only a small desk tv was blocking   BJ from the nownopen window and freedom after five hours (fortunately i've found no bird droppings-yet).

I was somehow able to scoop up a fidgeting handful of bird and toss him out the window to watch him happily stream away.

In my book that's two, er, three (including the cat)  happy tail endings in one day! Now for some sleep....
See PICTURED (above)  catio window blinds  now open with Zippy (black cat, bottom right-thats  Zack, bottom left) now safely home and feathered friends now back to their great outdoors home and feathered follies now happily over.
At least for now. Always an adventure here along the Bay Area Backroads
See PICTURED (above)  catio window blinds  now open with Zippy (black cat, bottom right-thats  Zack, bottom left) now safely home and feathered friends now back to their great outdoors home and feathered follies 3 Dramas now happily over.  What a week: Two unwanted in-coming birds and one unwanted outgoing cat! Whew! Glad that's over. What will be next? Now I can try to catch up on sleep deficit hopefully before next adventures and any more CAT-astrophes ( now I understand the ROOT of CATastrophe).

Jasper, the Gentle Giant, Lives on in our Hearts

Pictured: Jasper, Janet & Maz

Hi, my name is Janet and Jasper is the dark bay horse that lived next to my horse at Hossmoor. Jasper was a wonderful 27-year-old gelding with a big personality and enough vitality for three horses. Sadly older horses are terribly fragile, and Jaspers' time came quite suddenly. He coliced painfully, sending his caretaker, Sabrina, into a mad scramble to help him, but nothing seemed to work. Finally, he was trailered to U.C. Davis, and the awful truth became apparent. There was nothing anyone could do, and Sabrina had to say goodbye to her friend of 26 years.
We grieve with Sabrina and miss Jasper. It is hard enough to face large vet bills trying to save a horse but harder still when the horse is gone. I am reaching out to those who would like to help. The proceeds with go to pay the U.C. Davis and the emergency vet invoices.
Thank you for your help.Read more

If I may add a few words to Janet's thoughtfulness... I, Burt, along with Mindy are guardians for Snowy, who lives a couple stalls up from where Jasper lived . We loved Jasper (Sabrina) . He was the center of our little barn family at Hossmoor along with Maz (Janet), snowy and a few others. Everyday was a treat for me (as well as Jasper and others) who eagerly awaited their single 'stabul' treat when I came by. It was a big deal to them and for me to see them all so happy. But it wasnt just about treats. There was a real chemistry among our senior horses-and humans, too. Other horses would come and go from the barn but ours were the mainstays with big boy Jasper no doubt the ringleader to whom Maz, Snowy and others looked up , both figuratively and literally.
I liked Jasper the minute I met him some two -plus years ago. He exuded charisma and was very playful and unpredictable, especially for a horse his age, 26. He liked me  and Snowy and we liked him and  became best buddies. JASPER was also a funny guy. I loved how he'd surprise everyone when he came bounding down the isle right to his stall after Sabrina let him off his bridal(?).(Excuse my ignorance as I'm the horse neophyte of the barn, though I must say I've learned a lot , thanks to Jasper and Sabrina as well as others.)

My first big horse thrill came when Sabrina let Snowy join Jasper in the arena one night. There i really saw how Jasper took charge as well as showing his goofball side  running wild. Snowy didn't know what to think at first but I believe Jasper's playfullness rubbed off on the more introverted Snowy, who began to display some of those same Jasper characteristics , including bucking and snorting.

More recently, Sabrina and Janet entrusted me to take Snowy in to the pasture turnout  to graze with Jasper and Maz. It was fun for me to be the 'fourth horse,' if you will, watching us all interact like the buddies we are.

In recent months I watched Jasper, now beset with nagging medical issues, still the leader of pack. But, I could sometmes see in his eyes that age that he wasn't feeling his bes  Perhaps time  was finally catching up with this would-be teenager. He still wanted to be the same young buck Sabrina first knew 26 years ago - and even more recently - but now Jasper's body was betraying him.

On one hand I wish I was there on that fateful day when Jasper suffered what no horse or being should have to go through. On the other hand i was spared from seeing what Jasper had to go through and  my barn friends had to witness. I feel terrible for all who were part of it, especially Jasper. Sadly, the life of a horse is not always an easy one. But. instead, Let us turn our thoughts to mostly wonderful 26 years of days shared by Jasper and Sabrina that preceeded that last ugly one. Unfortunately, we can't always control our final days and moments. Its so hard. It wasn't even my horse, but my daily sad thoughts of Jasper I will try to channel as happy ones, especially on my daily visits to the barn. Perhaps in the next chapter of this story Sabrina will grace us with some of her fabulous times and tales with Jasper. LONG LIVE JASPER, THE GENTLE GIANT, IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS

Though Sabrina resisted Janet's initial attempt  for the attached Go Fund Me page she later relented.  As Janet notes, nobody deserves to be consumed with overwhelming vet bills especially when losing her horse. Won't you consider a donation to a worthy cause while paying tribute to our friends Jasper and Sabrina

10 Natural Ways to Support A Healthy Immune System With or Without Vaccines - FREE Ebook

10 Natural Ways to Support a Healthy Immune System

Greetings,

Good news. My name is Dr. Rettner. I've been in practice as a chiropractor and weight loss specialist for the last 40 years. I'm working with the Frontline doctors COVID-19 protocol as well as an excellent nutritionist who has recommended the best brands for those supplements. They can all be ordered from my online Square store by clicking HERE

As a special offer, I'm giving away my e-book “10 Natural Ways to Support a Healthy Immune System” with each order.

Frontline doctors are a nonprofit group of highly published medical doctors who have come up with effective treatment protocols.

They have no conflict of interest with these protocols, they're just doctors who want to share good treatment knowledge for public health. Their emphasis is on early treatment and proper doses of supplements you can take, like vitamin C, vitamin D, melatonin and zinc. They also champion repurposed drugs that they know already work like Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine. Rather than differentiating between vaccinated and unvaccinated, they focus on patients who
had early treatment and those didn't. Whether you're vaccinated or not you need early treatment. The Frontline COVID-19 website is flccc.net.
